We Have Met The Enemy, And He Is Us: Jeffrey Zeldman Masters Himself at AEA Boston

Many of the professional problems we blame on boneheaded bosses and clueless coworkers actually come from ourselves, says An Event Apart’s Jeffrey Zeldman. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

In “The Fault, Dear Brutus,” Jeffrey’s presentation at An Event Apart Boston 2015, you’ll identify career woes you bring on yourself; learn to get out of your own way; cultivate the professionally and emotionally healthy worker within; and make yourself irreplaceable.

Plan for a long, deep career. See how improving your sales ability can make all the difference in your work and job. Employees, learn what to do when your work doesn’t reflect your best abilities. Freelancers, find out how to raise your profile and your rates. Master the side project, and use it to make deeper contacts in your community. Above all, free yourself to know (and speak) your mind. You’ll come away from Jeffrey’s session full of inspiring new ideas, and brimming with energy and enthusiasm for your work and the people it serves.

Dubbed “King of Web Standards” by Business Week, Jeffrey co-founded An Event Apart with Eric Meyer; has published A List Apart, a leading journal of web design thought since 1998; co-founded A Book Apart, a small press with a huge impact in the field of web and digital design and UX; and founded and is chairman of Happy Cog™, a digital design studio with offices in New York and Philadelphia. Jeffrey has written two books, notably the foundational web standards text, Designing With Web Standards, currently in a 3rd Edition coauthored with Ethan Marcotte. It has been translated into 15 languages, and—together with The Web Standards Project, which Jeffrey co-founded in 1998—is widely credited with converting the web design industry from tag soup and Flash to semantics and accessibility.

Jeffrey is also a faculty member in the MFA, Interaction Design program at School of Visual Arts, New York, and the founder and host of weekly internet radio program The Big Web Show, which has twice been named Podcast of the Year by net Magazine. In 2012, Jeffrey was the first designer inducted in the SXSW Interactive Hall of Fame. He has blogged at zeldman.com since 1995, and tweets prolifically at @zeldman.
