It’s Molly!

September 12, 2006

We’re pleased as punch to announce that author, teacher, and web standards evangelist Molly E. Holzschlag will join us onstage at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown for An Event Apart Austin, speaking on a subject she calls …

From the Content, Out

You read and hear a lot about semantic markup and structure, but how does one achieve a truly meaningful, minimal markup document? Molly’s answer is: From the content, out.

In this insightful hour, Molly Holzschlag will demonstrate how working with the content to identify its meaning helps you properly mark that content up. This technique is valuable for numerous reasons: it helps reduce overuse of divs and keeps the document extremely lightweight and easy to style. What’s more, content-out markup can assist with efficient and agile workflow, as it is a process that is completely independent from design.

About the Speaker

Molly E. Holzschlag is a well-known web standards advocate, instructor, and author. She is Group Lead for The Web Standards Project (WaSP) and an invited expert to the HTML and GEO working groups at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Among her thirty-plus books is the The Zen of CSS Design, co-authored with Dave Shea. The book artfully showcases interesting and instructive csszengarden.com designs. A popular and colorful individual, Molly has a particular passion for people, blogs, and the use of technology for social progress.
